ORIGINAL PRODUCTIONS / COMMISSIONS

When music meets architecture.

Zarzuela Monumental: two production contexts, a living relationship between music, imagery and place.

Three projects, one relationship with heritage

Monuments in Concert brings together Zarzuela Monumental Retiro, Zarzuela Monumental Hispanidad and Carmina Burana. Three completed projects connecting music, architecture and public space, from which we are developing an international reach.

Architecture can be more than the backdrop to a concert. In Zarzuela Monumental, voices, music and visual creation build a relationship between the repertoire and the space in which it is heard.

Hispanidad: an original production

Zarzuela Monumental Hispanidad is part of Madrid Produce’s original productions. It brings together voices, an instrumental ensemble and projection mapping in a format conceived for landmark spaces.

Bruno G. Arantes leads executive production; Miquel Ortega, musical direction; Francisco Matilla, dramaturgy and stage direction; and Felipe Giuliano, visual artistic direction. Ensamble de Madrid also takes part.

Developing an original production means shaping its format: the relationship between disciplines, its presentation requirements and the conditions that bring it to the stage. Production begins with the definition of the project, well before resources are hired.

Retiro: closing San Isidro 2023

Zarzuela Monumental Retiro closed San Isidro 2023. Madrid Produce delivered this commissioned production at the Alfonso XII monument, combining musical performance and projection mapping.

A commission responds to an established context: a place, a programme or a promoter’s intention. The production challenge is to give that brief a coherent form.

A production’s identity also lies in its relationship with its setting.

The programme explores departures and returns, shared roots and the rhythms of a new world. Iberian and American composers, rarely performed repertoire and new dances by Miquel Ortega meet projection mapping that transforms architecture into shared heritage.
